No Kings Day: A Brew for the People, Not the Throne

At Moody Brews, we believe in mental health, mutual care, and the radical act of thinking for yourself. So today, on No Kings Day, we’re raising our mugs (and maybe our middle fingers) to the systems that taught us to bow when we were born to stand.

What is No Kings Day, anyway?
It’s not an official holiday, but then again, most revolutions don’t get a parade. No Kings Day is a countercultural statement, a grassroots celebration of anti-authoritarianism and collective liberation. It’s a day to reject hierarchy, whether it’s monarchies, billionaires, cult leaders, or even emotionally manipulative bosses, and choose shared power over hoarded control.

☕ So What Does That Have to Do With Coffee?

Everything.
Coffee culture has long been co-opted by capitalism. Think overpriced “third-wave” spots run by dudes who treat espresso machines like sacred relics and their staff like peasants. But at Moody Brews, our coffee doesn’t come with a crown. It comes with community. Connection. Consent.

You don’t need a king to run a kingdom. You need a table where everyone gets a seat.

👑 No Kings = No Gatekeeping

No Kings Day is a reminder that:

  • You get to define your own values.
  • Healing doesn’t require a guru, just people who listen.
  • You are not “less than” because someone else was given a title, platform, or microphone.
  • Power built on fear is not power. It’s control dressed in gold leaf.

And in case no one told you lately:
You don’t need permission to exist, speak, rest, or rise.

🧠 Why This Matters for Mental Health

Hierarchy isn’t just a political problem, it’s a psychological one.

In trauma therapy, we often talk about internalized oppression: the belief that you are small, broken, or wrong because someone with more “status” told you so. Whether it’s a parent, a preacher, or a president, their voice becomes the one in your head telling you to shrink.

No Kings Day is your reminder to evict that voice.
You are allowed to be your own authority.
You are allowed to unlearn the scripts written by systems that never cared for your wellbeing.

🔥 What Can You Do to Celebrate No Kings Day?

  • Unfollow a toxic leader, online or in real life.
  • Support a co-op instead of a mega-corp.
  • Have a boundary conversation with someone who thinks they’re entitled to you.
  • Read something radical. (Start here: Bell Hooks, Adrienne Maree brown, or Audre Lorde.)
  • Post about it. Use the hashtag #NoKingsDay and tell the world why you choose people over power.

💬 Final Sip: The Throne Is Overrated

You weren’t born to serve someone else’s empire.
You were born to create something kinder, messier, more just, with people who don’t need a title to be worth listening to.

So today, we drink to No Kings.
To autonomy. To revolution. To radical rest.
To collective healing, mutual aid, and the quiet power of saying: “I don’t answer to crowns. I answer to my conscience.”
